Fegley’s Releases First Terpene Beer

July 4th, 2019 |

Fegley’s Brew Works’ First Terpene Oil Beer

Bethlehem, PA – At 11am on July 5th, Fegley’s Bethlehem Brew Works will release a new brew concept in the craft beer industry that is sure to leave you wanting more. Catnip Kitty, one of Pennsylvania’s first terpene oil beers, is a milkshake New England style IPA and will be available on draft at The Bethlehem Brew Works location on the 5th of July!

The name comes from our brewmaster’s own kitty who has inspired a line of “Kitty Beers”. Catnip Kitty specifically is brewed with Pilsner and Pale malts, loads of oats, milk, sugar, and vanilla. Whirlpool hops of El Dorado, Chinook, and Huell Melon then dry hopped with 44 pounds of Mosaic hops. Final preparations for your palette include an alchemist’s blend of terpene oils of Sour Diesel and Fruity Pebbles for that “dude, you got my cat high” experience!

What is a terpene oil? Terpenes are fragrant oils that are secreted in the cannabis flower’s sticky resin glands and give cannabis its aromatic diversity. It wasn’t until just recently that terpenes started getting attention in the cannabis community, although they have a long story. Certain types of terpenes actually bond to cannabinoid receptors, enhancing the effects of the other compounds that are active in cannabis, including CBD and THC. Yes, terpenes are known for enhancing the effects of both CBD and THC as well as enhancing the medical benefits related to both.

When Fegley’s Brewmaster Chris Bowen was asked how he came up with the idea, he responded saying “After years of following the Grateful Dead around in my early days, I was exposed to many strange aromas that became familiar once again, this was really fun to work on! The amount of terpenes is very small, they are highly concentrated and a little goes along way, but make a huge impact on flavor and aroma.”

Over the years, Fegley’s Brew Works has been known as a leader in the Lehigh Valley beer industry, also being one of the first to brew and regularly serve Lambics, which is fermented through exposure to wild yeasts and bacteria as opposed to being exposed to carefully cultivated strains of brewer’s yeast. Now, they plan to connect the bridge from the cannabis world to the beer world and show you how noteworthy it can be.

Due to the growing popularity of cannabis infused products and this brew’s exclusivity, the Fegley’s encourage you to stop by their Bethlehem Brew Works location on July 5th to ensure your spot in trying this new one-off beer that won’t be around long.

Fegley’s Brew Works has been honored throughout its twenty-one years with accolades for their food and drink as well as their community involvement. They are dedicated to sustainable business practices by recycling, upcycling, and composting waste material. Their breweries and brewpubs are run by 100% renewable energy sources and Fegley’s strives to use locally sourced, all-natural, responsibly raised ingredients for their menus to serve food and beer as good as nature intended it.
