Goundie’s Old Monocacy Ale COMING SOON!

April 28th, 2016 |

goundie labelOn February 18th, 2016, Beer Historian and Brewer Christopher Bowen and award-winning Brew Master Beau Baden brewed the official beer – an English Style Old Ale – for the city of Bethlehem’s 275th Anniversary!

The collaboration brew was named “Goundie’s Old Monocacy Ale” and was derived from a historic recipe circa 1815. Bowen and Baden brewed this special ale in 2009 and it was so well received that they felt it’d be the perfect beer to brew for the occasion.

The beer will be available on draft at Bethlehem Brew Works and in commemorative, 750ml corked & caged bottles at the brewery and via the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce at the Community Celebration on June 25th.

Release dates for draft at Bethlehem Brew Works and in bottles are TBD but plans are “in the Works’.

ABOUT THE ALE: in the style of British Old Ales, using smoked, biscuit and English malts and hops, roasted Barley and a special ingredient called Essentia Bina – think homemade molasses. Check out Bowen’s Facebook Page for pictures of the process – smoking the sugar, boiling over a fire for hours before setting the pot on fire, adding color and a peat like taste. ‘Old Ale’ is a somewhat sweet, rich and full bodied.
