On Saturday, January 30th at 9am, the winning home brewed beer from Lehigh Valley Beer Week’s ‘Be Our Brewer’ competition will be collaboratively brewed by Fegley’s Brew Works Brew Master Beau Baden and Homebrewer Dave Bennett at Fegley’s Allentown Brew Works location. In October, 2015 Bennett won Lehigh Valley Beer Week’s homebrew competition with his Matcha green tea infused pale ale “Summer Seduction”. The beer will be renamed to “LVBW4” and become the official beer of Lehigh Valley Beer Week 2016 scheduled to be held in and around the Lehigh Valley February 20th through February 27th.
Dave Bennett has been brewing from home for approximately five years, the last 3 years using his homemade RIMS brewing system. The Union Ironworker Foreman from Northern New Jersey, is a big fan of Imperial Stout and a self-confessed “hop-head but have not yet perfected one (IPA) of my own. So that quest continues…” But his winning pale ale was ‘perfected’ and brewed with Matcha green tea, honey, mango, peach, and a touch of Demerara sugar.
“LVBW4” will be available to Lehigh Valley Beer Week participating bars, restaurants and distributors to serve on draft. The first taste of this brew will occur at the 4th Annual Ribbon Cutting and Tapping Ceremony at the Allentown Brew Works on February 20th at 1pm. The kick-off event will be hosted by LVBW’s newly appointed President Scott Adams. The 501c(6) organization welcomed Scott in December, 2015.
Adams was more willing to take the reigns with 16 years of homebrewing, including 2 collaboration brews with HiJinx Brewery, and more than 10 years of working in the craft beer service industry in the Lehigh Valley. When asked why he accepted the role of president he said, “I just wanted to meet more people that have the same passion for beer as I do.” Scott is the present manager of the beer program at Allentown’s Tavern on Liberty and resides in Emmaus with his wife Elizabeth and daughter Eleonora.
Lehigh Valley Beer Week has grown over the past 4 years to more than 60 participating breweries, bars, distributors, and venues. The week will feature events spotlighting craft beer such as tap takeovers, meet-the-brewers events, beer dinners, exclusive tappings and much more.
