140 beer lovers join Brew Works' mug club

In another sign that the Allentown Brew Works is growing a customer base, the brew pub and restaurant sold 140 mugs Wednesday night for its in-house mug club. About 200 were offered, and the owners receive discounts and other benefits, says brew pub owner Jeff Fegley. No. 1 sold for $125 for the year.

The mugs, each individually numbered and hung from the ceiling above the bar, are very popular in the Fegley family’s Bethlehem Brew Works, where all 200 available in-house mugs have owners. Only a handful — about 10 — are available for purchase each year after their owners decide to relinquish them, Fegley says. The price for each mug varies, but some owners have paid as much as $180 to rent a mug for a year.

Mug owners pay $2.75 for an 18-ounce draft. Other customers pay $4 for a pint. During happy hour, the price drops even more.
