CH-47

This copper, dry-finishing West Coast Style Pale Ale has a hefty sling load of Chinook hops, giving its distinctive bite. Chinook and Amarillo hops contribute to the citrus like aroma. A hophead’s delight! A medium bodied brew that is crisp and refreshing with a delightful bitterness.

This brew is named after the Boeing CH-47 Chinook, a twin-rotor heavy-lift helicopter. The CH-47 is one of the heaviest lifting, and yet one of the fast helicopters in the US fleet. For troop movements and battle zone artillery supply you need to get in and get out carrying a great deal. With a top speed of 196 mph, this big boy can really move.

Tastes they are a-changin’

We’ve been brewing this beer for over 10 years, and it was considered a hop assault to the beer drinkers back then. While the hop heads adored it, many others backed away from it’s blast of grapefruity bitterness. Oh, how times have changed. The beer culture has moved further and further toward very hoppy beers, and CH-47 (which was once thought of as ’extreme’), with its prominent hop bitterness, is now considered quite the norm. And now that tastes have caught up to this brew, it shines as a powerful example of an American Pale Ale.
