Ich bin ein Berliner Weiss! An unfiltered, sour, wheat beer, brewed in the traditional German process. Lactobacillus (“good” bacteria) are added to the fermenter to purposely sour the beer. Berliner Weiss is aged for nearly a year to develop the flavor. An award-winning example of the style, our unfiltered brew is low in alcohol and refreshingly tart. Served by itself or with a traditional shot of woodruff or raspberry syrup.
Berliner Weiss reached a popularity peak in the 19th century as the most brewed beer in Germany – even being brewed by Fredrick the Great. Beer Expert Michael Jackson relayed a story that Napoleon’s troops referred to it as “The Champagne of the North.” Brewmaster Beau Baden is also a big fan of the style, and our Berliner Weiss has won the Bronze Medal at the Great American Beer Festival twice!

Because of its long term aging process, we have only been releasing a limited supply every summer, but Beau is currently working on a system to have this available year-round.

Serve in a Tulip Glass. Pairs with Bavarian pretzels, corned beef, and aged ham. Buttery cheeses like Havarti and Brie, as well as salads. By itself as an aperitif, or with cheesecake and tarts for dessert.
Pours a hazy pale gold with a clean slightly citric nose. The flavor is lemony-tart, bubbly-crisp in a very light body. Taste of pale grains and little bitterness makes for a refreshing, delicate finish. (The addition of the flavor-syrups sweeten the beer and add their respective flavors).
